The Weekend Blog | What a great week!

4th November 2018

I know it’s been forever since I’ve wrote a Weekend Blog post (or any blog post for that matter!) but I’ve had such a great week that I felt I needed to document it!

So let’s jump straight in…

New carpet

A few weeks ago we finally ordered new carpet for our bedroom and my office. I’d never bought flooring before so it was completely new to me and I was so worried about choosing the right carpet.

The carpet was fitted on Monday afternoon and I’m so pleased to say that I’m happy with my decision. I love the colour and the quality, and I definitely don’t miss that paint covered green carpet!

As soon as Tyrone got home from work we started moving everything back into the two rooms. I couldn’t stop smiling as I made my office look exactly how I had imagined it to look in head.

I literally leaped out of bed on Tuesday morning because I was so excited to work in my office for the first time since going self-employed!

New hair

On Tuesday I went for my first haircut in over 6 months. I wasn’t putting off; I’d just completely lost track of time!

I had quite a few inches chopped off and the rest of it thinned out. As always, it was lovely to catch up with my hairdresser, and I left there feeling like a new woman!

The internet in our house has caused us a lot of stress from day one.

When we bought our house we knew that the whole street didn’t have fibre, we were told it would be up and running by December 2017. All of the other streets in our neighbourhood already had fibre so we assumed there wouldn’t be a problem.

Well, December came and went with no sign of fibre. So we got in touch with our provider who told us that the project was no longer going ahead, and that if we wanted to fibre then we would have to pay for a private line to our house. This would have been thousands and thousands of pounds.

As you can imagine, we were furious. By this point I had quit my job and I was working for myself, so I desperately needed a fast and reliable internet connection.

Tyrone had the smart idea to write to our local MP in order to rally some support, and fortunately our MP was on our side. In fact, he said that we weren’t the only people who had contacted him about this.

I don’t know whether our letter made any difference or not but shortly after contacting him we were informed that the project was restarted again and that we would have fibre by September.

After a little bit of a delay our fibre finally went live on Thursday and it’s already made such a difference to my life. I’ll never take good internet for granted again!

Mark Knopfler tickets

Last week Tyrone and I found out that Mark Knopfler was coming to Manchester and we decided to try any buy tickets.

Fortunately I managed to grab some pretty good seats in the pre-sale, and I also booked the same hotel we stayed in when we went to see The Rolling Stones.

I love having little breaks like these to look forward to.

Girls Doing Cool Things event

On Thursday evening I went to the first ever Girls Doing Cool Things event in Liverpool.

Girls Doing Cool Things is an amazing community full of inspirational women created by my friend Julia. I had a wonderful time at this event meeting new people and talking to people I’ve been following online for ages.

If you live locally you should definitely come along to the next event.

UK Blog Award

On Friday morning an email dropped in my inbox from the UK Blog Awards saying that had made it through to the second round of the award!

I don’t know any other details as of yet but when I do I will let you know because there will be a public vote. It would absolutely mean the world to me if you could vote for my blog when the time comes. I’ve worked my arse off on it this year and I’m so incredibly proud of it!

As well as all this exciting stuff going on in my life, I’ve also had a great week of work. I’m literally working with my dream clients at the moment and it fills me with so much joy to help them to create the website of their dreams.

I just keep thinking about where I was this time last year and how crap I felt all of the time. Quitting my job and putting myself first was by far the best decision I’ve made, even though it was also so scary!

How’s your week been? Let me know in the comments!

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Fab news! New carpet and fibre, that is great. Nice to hear that you MP took initiative and the project was completed. Good luck with the blog awards.

  2. How good is the feeling of new carpet?! I love it. I wish I could get new carpet more often haha.

So glad everything seems to be going well for you, with the fibre (finally), the UK Blog Award and work. Also, that Girls Doing Cool Things event sounds so cool!!

  3. There’s no better feeling than new carpet and a fresh new haircut!

Congrats on winning the blog award. You totally deserve it. 🙂
