The Weekend Blog | We’re going on a cruise!

15th July 2018

This week Tyrone and I finally booked our summer holiday!

We are going on a Baltic Cruise!

We’ll be going to Norway (Oslo), Sweden (Stockholm and Gothenburg), Finland (Helsinki), Russia (St Petersburg), Estonia (Tallinn), Gemany (possibly going on an excursion to Berlin) and Denmark (Copenhagen). I’m so excited I haven’t stopped smiling since I booked it!

As well as this being my first two week cruise, it will also be mine and Tyrone’s first holiday together. It’s all inclusive so I will be eating all the food and drinking all the drinks.

Unlike the other cruises I’ve been on, this is not a fly-cruise. It actually departs from Newcastle so I will be driving us up to the port. Originally we looked at taking the train but with Liverpool Lime Street being closed it would have meant making a lot of changes, and I can’t be dealing with the stress!

I have to admit, I am apprehensive about the drive because I’ve never drove that far before (it’s about 3 to 4 hours) but we will be setting off early and scheduling lots of breaks so I can stretch my legs. I’ve also booked my car in for a service to make sure it’s in good health!

At the same time, I’m also looking forward to not flying for once! I’m such an anxious flyer and I find it so draining. Plus, no luggage restrictions, no checking in online and reserving seats, and no faffing around with decanting liquids into 100ml bottles. Hell yeah!

We’ll be sailing on the Marella Discovery which I haven’t sailed on before. But judging by the photos it’s bigger and more luxurious than the last ship we went on (which was basically a ferry). It has some cool features like a climbing wall, a mini golf course and one of those breakout challenges, and with 4 days at sea I’m sure we will get to try everything out.

In true Holly and Tyrone fashion, we’ve booked this trip very last minute, even though I’ve been looking at it for over a year. So yes, I have got a hell of a lot to sort out before we go, especially work wise. But I’m enjoying being busy and it will make this holiday even more rewarding.

Of course, I intend on blogging about the whole trip. I am going to try and take as much time as possible away from the internet (I’m certainly not going to be working!) but I might pop some stories up over on Instagram. 6 out of the 7 countries we are going to are new to us (I’ve been to Norway before and Tyrone has been to Germany) so I have no doubt this will be an incredible experience.

In general, this whole week has been pretty amazing. I’ve been doing lots of things that would normally make me incredibly anxious, but I’ve been handling all of the situations really well. I’ve also been super busy with work and I’ve got some really exciting opportunities coming my way.

Last weekend I popped back to Shropshire for a Christening and it was so lovely to see my family; some of which I haven’t seen since my cousin’s wedding almost 3 years ago! The good news is my uncle is getting married in September so I’ll get to see everyone again soon.

This weekend we’ve just been taking it slow and we’ve been getting prepared for our holiday. I’m just feeling incredible zen today and I hope this feeling will last.

I hope you had an amazing week and weekend! Oh and if you have been to the place we’ll be visiting on our cruise, please let me know your recommendations!

P.S. If you want to read about my last cruise, you can find all of the posts right here!

It’s a really amazing route! I’ve done a few cruises but I think this might be the best one yet.

  4. AHHH I was so excited for you when I saw your tweet! This sounds like such an incredible trip!! I’ve never been on a cruise myself but I can imagine it being very relaxing and different from the “usual” holiday. I can imagine all the restrictions and stress of flying (I get it too!!) will be good not to have – eek really excited for you!! I’m especially looking forward to your experience in Sweden, I’ve never been but it’s on my list of places to go sometime this year *hopefully*!

I can’t wait to see the little peeks of the trip on Instagram. Definitely take time off the internet/work and enjoy your time!

The good thing about this cruise is there’s lots of days at sea, which means lots of time to relax. I’ve done cruises before where you are off the ship each day which can be tiring!

I feel so much more relaxed knowing that we don’t have to fly. Sure, I’m a little nervous about the drive but nowhere near as bad as I would be if we were flying.

  5. Amazing line up of places to visit!!! WoW! Have loads of fun!!!

  6. Oh I’ve always wanted to go on a trip to that region all in one package. I hope you have a wonderful time there. I can’t wait to see some pictures! πŸ™‚

  7. Omg that’s awesome~! Have fun both of you!
