The Weekend Blog | The heating is on!
23rd October 2016
We finally decided to bite the bullet and put the central heating on this week, which means it’s officially winter as far as I’m concerned.
And, as expected, my mental health hasn’t been great this week. I think it’s partially because of the cold, dark days but also because I’ve been quite stressed at work with an approaching deadline, but you know what, I’m doing okay.
I’ve made lots of time for myself this week. I’ve been sneaking off to my “office” (spare bedroom!) in an evening to work on the new theme I’m building for Empfire. I’m planning on having it ready for a New Year launch, which may seem like a long time off but I’ve got a lot of work to do updating old posts before it can go live. But I am so excited to share it with you.
I think it’s slightly crazy that I spend all day coding at work, then I come home and continue to code in the evening, but I guess that just demonstrates how much I love what I do.
I also made time for a bit of retail therapy this week and managed to pick myself up not one but two pairs of ankle boots. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but I always have a nightmare each winter finding ankle boots that are…
- Light enough that they don’t cause my hip any pain.
- Durable enough to survive the winter and my uneven weight distribution when I walk.
- Comfortable enough to get me to work everyday without rubbing me.
- Stylish enough that I don’t look like I’m wearing safety shoes.
Well, this year, in the space of 4 days I’ve found two pairs of boots that may fit the criteria (I guess you can’t tell how durable they will be) so I’m chuffed. My mum suggested buying lots of pairs of boots so I can alternate between them and maybe they’ll last me for the entire winter. Both of the pairs of boots I bought were super cheap (one pair was even from Tesco!) so if things don’t work out at least I haven’t lost too much money.
Unlike the £60 pair I once owned that destroyed my hip because of the weight…
Anyway, enough about shoes.
So far this weekend has been really relaxed. Yesterday we had friends over for a games night and a Chinese takeaway, which was lovely. Staying in on an evening with friends is the best way to survive the winter. It’s also very hygge.
This morning I got up early and did another trial run of driving to work; all by myself this time. It could not have gone better! I didn’t make any mistakes! I’m so happy as it means I now feel confident enough to start driving to work when I want to. And being able to drive to work will make such a difference to my life.
Now I have the rest of the day to chill out, do some baking, have a relaxing bath and play some Sims.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
P.S. I made the fudge in the photo, and used a recipe from by best friend’s blog; Winberry Crumble.
