The Weekend Blog | Success

30th April 2017

It’s been a good week. A successful week, in fact.

On Monday, Tyrone did his presentation for his dissertation which marked the end of his degree. On Tuesday he had a job interview and on Wednesday he found out he got the job!

What a way to start to the week!

He’s going to be a web developer like me which I’m really excited about. I’m hoping that as our skills evolve we can work on some projects of our own together.

And I’m also excited because now Ty has a job we can start looking at holidays for this year. I’ve got my eye on a couple of cruises but we’ve also been looking at going to Singapore for the F1 race and to see Duran Duran who are performing at the track that weekend. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Speaking of holidays, do you remember last summer when we went to Lanzarote and I got food poisoning from the hotel food? Well, I been pursuing the holiday company ever since and finally, after 10 bloody months, I got a letter from them on Tuesday apologising and offering me some compensation.

We got back almost half of the cost of the entire trip which I am over the moon about as it did completely ruin the holiday both of us. So I think we’re going to put the money towards our next adventure.

With in being another long Bank Holiday weekend (I love this time of year!), Tyrone and I decided to go back to Shropshire. We drove home on Friday night and we came back to the Wirral this afternoon.

I didn’t get up to much while I was at home apart from binge watching Line of Duty (new obsession!) and I spending some time learning how to use Git Hub, but I did go out for a lovely meal with Becky on Saturday. I have tomorrow off work so I think we’re planning on popping into Liverpool.

I hope you had a great weekend!

P.S. If you fancy some more reading, don’t forget to check out my interview with Georgie over on her blog!

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Wow! Congrats to Tyrone on completing his degree, cracking his interview and getting a job as a web dev! I hope you plan some amazing holidays, Holly!
Github can be an awesome place for all the version control but sometimes just a big pain the butt! I spend more than half of the time at work in pushing code to Git!

    • Holly

I’ll pass on your message to him. 😊

We use a different version control system at work but I wanted to learn Git Hub because I know it’s quite popular. Yes, pushing code is a pain!

  2. Elisa L.

nice to know you had a wonderful week! i can’t say the same for myself though but ah, whatever. we all have to push through, right?
it’s so cool that both you and your brother are web developers. imagine the collaboration and what you guys can develop together in the future πŸ˜›

  3. Congratulations to Tyrone! It’s a very exciting time for him. Singapore for the F1 race sounds amazing! xx

  4. I am over the moon for you and Ty. This is such an amazing opportunity for you both. I’m excited to see what fun projects you both get up to, being developers! Couple goals, right there πŸ˜‰

I’m so glad you finally got back money for that accident. I remember when you tweeted and blogged about it! I know it’s been a while but I’m glad that you did get something back and that it’s going into your future adventure πŸ˜€ I can’t wait to hear about it!

I’ve been loving the long breaks recently! The month of April – May is great! πŸ˜‰

    • Holly

Haha thank you Pauline! I don’t think either Tyrone or I would ever hear us referred to as “couple goals” but you’ve made my day!

Pestering them on Twitter paid off even though it was frustrating at time. It’s always worth complaining.

  5. Amy

So happy to hear Tyrone has a new job! It’s so cool that you’ll both be web developers. No doubt that’ll be great for improving your skills and going further in your careers. And it’s great that you’ll be able to go on holiday together. Congrats!

Glad they’ve finally given you some money back for the holiday. Can’t believe it’s taken them so long though. Wouldn’t book through them again, that’s for sure!

Hope you had fun at home! I love all these bank holidays we’re getting! Four day weeks are the best!

    • Holly

I know! 10 months is a bit of a joke, and I had to chase it so much. I told them if they didn’t do something soon I’d take them to the holiday ombudsman (ABTA?) which must have worked!

  6. Liv

Wow congratulations to Tyrone getting the job so quickly! That’s wonderful, and that’s so great you guys can share your career together!

I nominate Singapore for your trip. SINGAPORE!

That’s awesome they compensated you! Even though it took a long time, they finally came around and took responsibility.

  7. Congrats to Tyrone! That’s really quick to hear about getting the job! One day later? Wow!

Yay for getting compensation on that trip of food poisoning hell from last year. It’s a good idea to put that comp towards your next adventure! I did the same with the leftover travel funds, and put it towards my next trip ^^

Glad you had a great week!

  8. Yeaaaa GitHub! Have you been able to use it on the command line/terminal yet? I love doing that – some people prefer to use a GUI, but when you learn a bit more, it can be really handy to type the commands in.

I am so glad that after all that time you were compensated for the horrible experience on that trip. And a good amount of it too. I would definitely be using that money for my next trip too.

Nick and I wanted to go to the Formula 1 last year but ended up going to Singapore in July instead. We had barely any leave and it was going to be hard even if we did – because work was really busy for both of us at the time of the F1. You will hopefully love the heat and warmth of Singapore when you finally go!

Congratulations to Ty on landing the role. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ Gotta love it when your partner has a job in a similar field. Nick and I have always worked together on small projects and been able to help each other. And the best part is literally having someone else understand what you are talking about when it comes to development πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

No, I still need to try out command line. I’m a little apprehensive haha! I feel like there’s a lot to learn.

It would be a amazing if we could go to Singapore for the F1. I guess it depends on whether or not we can both get time off work at the same time.

Yes! Tyrone said to me yesterday that he now understands what I’m talking about when I moan about clients who change their minds!
