The Weekend Blog | I won
7th August 2016
I never normally like Mondays, but Monday August 1st 2016 will be a date I will always be quite fond of. I will always remember it.
I will always remember the email I received when I was at work. I will always remember running out of the office to call Tyrone, shaking and close to tears, but full of pure joy. I will always remember calling my parents and sharing the good news with them too.
For the last 4 years I have been pursuing a legal case of medical negligence for late diagnosis of hip dysplasia and delayed referrals in treatment.
On Monday I found out that the defendants have admitted full liability.
I cannot begin to explain how good this feels. After all these years of my parents and I having a gut feeling that something wasn’t right, we have justice.
Pursuing a legal case has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. It’s not as easy as those TV commercials make it out to be. It’s been a long and painful process, during which I have found out a lot of things I perhaps never wanted to know. I’ve had to travel up and down the country to see specialists, I have had to take time off work, and I’ve cried and broke down more times than I care to think.
But oh man it was worth it just to be able to tell my parents it wasn’t their fault. Not that I ever believed it was.
At the end of the day, this win will not make me better. I still have dysplasia and I still have to continue on with life as my condition deteriorates.
I’m going to draw a line under this legal case and I’m not going to discuss it further on the blog, and I hope you understand my reasoning behind this. Just because I’ve won doesn’t mean the case has ended.
However, I wanted to share the news with you because from day one you guys have been so supportive. Even though you don’t know the full story, everything time I’ve mentioned something to do with my legal case I’ve had the loveliest comments. So thank you.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
