The Weekend Blog

1st November 2014

Lighthouse New Brighton

Today is the first 1st of November. Anyone else wondering where October went? It just flew by.

Last Sunday my parents were over in Liverpool with some of their friends. They’d all been to see The Full Monty at the Empire the night before and were looking for some way to spend their Sunday in Liverpool. I played tour guide and dragged them all on the train to New Brighton.

I took my camera too and managed to capture this photograph, which I am ridiculously proud of. It’s interesting to compare my pictures from last weekend to my picture of New Brighton in the summer.

On Monday my friend Becky came over to visit me. We went shopping, had lunch at the lovely Leaf tearooms and went on a tour of the St John’s Beacon, but I’ve got a special blog post about that day coming this week.

The rest of my week, as usual, has been occupied with university related things. Tyrone is at home this weekend so I’m spending my Saturday and Sunday catching up with assignments and lecture notes. Yep, even more uni work.

Tyrone celebrated his 21st birthday on Tuesday. You might have seen the photo of the birthday cake that I made for him on Instagram. I was going to share my recipe here, but I forgot to take a decent picture of it before we got stuck in to eating it. Looks like I’ll have to make it all over again. What a shame. πŸ˜‰

Just a heads up fellow bloggers: a website called ‘Shelterness’ is stealing blogger’s DIY tutorials. They don’t ask to use your content but use the exact same title as your post, meaning there is a good chance if someone Google’s it they will be directed to this website rather than your own blog. They do link back to your blog but only after they’ve reworded your tutorial. They are also impossible to get in touch with. They don’t respond to any emails asking to remove content. So many bloggers have complained, and it doesn’t look like a new issue. I’d avoid them at all costs!

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

I agree, October just disappeared. So now it’s November? So weird.
Nice sharp picture you managed to shoot there. Did you fix it in any way afterwards? I’m still working on getting sharper photos and it’s still an issue. I didn’t really get anywhere until I started using manual focus, but now my eyesight is getting so bad that I think it may affect how I set the manual focus. πŸ™ I definitely need new glasses. I’m getting old I guess.

That DIY thing really sucks. I never post that sort of thing so I guess I won’t be affected but it’s definitely no fun for those who write that sort of blogs.

Yeah, I took it in Photoshop to enhance the colours and to sharpen the waves. I always think it’s cheating but all photographers do it. πŸ˜‰

I’ve reported the website to Google. My next step will be to report them to their host. I’ve also put a warning on my original post urging people to boycott the site. However, I just don’t think people will be visiting my site via the link on their site because everything they need is already there for them. >:(

  2. I agree were did October go, it feels like it still should be September.

That photo is amazing, I’m hoping to head up to Liverpool next time I’m back in the UK as I wasn’t able to make it up there when I was in London this summer.

That sucks about that DIY website – hopefully everything will work out.

Hope your having a great weekend πŸ™‚

Please do visit Liverpool!! I always think it gets overlooked by tourists but it’s actually an incredible city. We have the most listed buildings in the UK outside of London, if that sort of thing interests you. πŸ˜‰

The photo is absolutely beautiful, I really like it. πŸ™‚ It does seems you’ve been busy πŸ˜‰ October went by fast indeed. By the way, happy birthday to Tyrone! πŸ™‚ You should make the cake again and share it with us, haha

    • Holly

Thank you. πŸ™‚ If I don’t make that cake again it will be a crime! I’d like to make cupcakes using the same recipe too.

  4. Well, Shelterness look like a bunch of arseholes.
& that photo is beautiful Holly!

  5. Hopefully giving your parents and their friends a tour through New Brighton was fun! The picture looks amazing! Especially with the waves being active and everything!

It sounds like you had a fun but busy week! Happy belated birthday to Tyrone.

It’s ridiculous when sites are stealing tutorials and DIY’s. Even more when they don’t ask for permission and still link to you. How shady is that? It seems like “Kate” knows nothing about blogger’s etiquette. ~___~. The irony lies within their copyright policy. Hope everything will get sorted out.

It was fun! They were just like big kids in the arcade and getting ice creams!!

I read their copyright policy too, which annoyed me even more. I’ve emailed them at two separate email addresses and still no reply. Ugh, I hate them!

Wow, that is a really cool photo! It soundts like you had a fun week. Good luck catching up on school work. I feel like I spend every weekend doing that, haha.

lovely photograph! :3 i’ve always wanted to go to UK but no chance ….yet. UK is in my list of places i wanna visit before i die so..fingers crossed on that.

shelterness is such a crap website >:( i don’t understand what’s so difficult just to put credits where credits are due. sigh, people. it’s 2014 and still, some people are acting like total a-holes.

    • Holly

Thank you. πŸ™‚ Come visit! I moan about the UK a lot but really there are some lovely places.

It’s awful. If they had said to me “Can we feature this post on our website?” I probably would have yes and provided a few guidelines, but not asking at all is just ignorant. I don’t think people will ever learn.
