Summer Favourites

The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask

Summer 2015 has been an interesting one. The weather hasn’t been fantastic, and I spent most it feeling miserable as I was unemployed. However, I was fortunate enough to go on a Mediterranean cruise, graduate and attend a wonderful wedding.  And once I was finally offered a job I was able to relax and enjoy my time off.

Today’s post is something I’ve not done before here on the blog. I’m going to talk about my summer favourites. My favourites consist of beauty products, items of clothing, activities and travel destinations. Basically, anything that has stood out to me this summer as being particularly great or memorable.

I’m not a beauty blogger, as has been stated many a time, but skincare and beauty products are a part of my life, and I blog about life, so I thought the occasional mention of a beauty product wouldn’t hurt.

The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask

Beauty – The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask

Oh. My. God. This product is my skin saviour.

When I even I’m having a bad skin day I slap this on and it works its magic. It dries my spots out so much that all I need to do is add some Epiduo (tropical acne treatment, prescription only) before bed and the next day I wake up with clear skin.

Unfortunately, as with many of the Body Shop products, it has recently seen a price increase (from £12 to £14) but it is just so good I know I will repurchase it time and time again.

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water

Beauty – Simple Micellar Cleansing Water

Micellar water is one of those products you either love or hate. I don’t tend to use this on my skin as I use a cleansing lotion instead, but it removed my eye makeup better than the Simple Eye Makeup Remover and doesn’t irritate my eyes as much. So yeah, I only use it to remove mascara and eye-liner, but it does it very well.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in Magic Mauve (245)

Beauty – Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in Magic Mauve (245)

I’ve never been a lipstick kind of girl. The first lipstick I bought was in a colour so similar to my natural lip colour that it just gave it a shine, but when I was preparing my outfit for the geography ball I knew I needed a nice lipstick to accompany my outfit.

When I bought this lipstick in Magic Mauve I thought it was a little bold, but I loved the colour and the way it felt on my lips. My intention was to only wear it for the ball and other special occasions, but it has become my everyday lipstick and I wear it all of the time. And considering I’ve been wearing it daily since May it has lasted so well.

Fashion – Jumpsuits!

Prior to 2015 I had never owned a jumpsuit before, but this year I took the plunge after finding one in H&M, trying it on and falling in love with it. With the British summer not being so great this year, jumpsuits have been life savers. They are the best thing to wear when it’s muggy but not quite sunny. You know, when it’s too warm for jeans but not warm enough for shorts.

The one featured in the photo above is from Pull and Bear, but I also have one from H&M. Both have been fantastic, and I will be sad to put them into storage for the winter months.

30 day yoga challenge

Activity – Yoga

You may already be aware (from this post) that I got into yoga this summer and spending time on my yoga mat has become one of my favourite parts of the day. I feel a lot better for working out more and I know it is helping my hip. It will definitely be more challenging to fit yoga into my routine when I start working but I am determined to keep it up.

Travel – Moncao

This summer I got to visit 5 countries during my Mediterranean cruise, but the one destination that stood out to (probably because I’ve never been there before) was Moncao.

After seeing it on the TV when watching the Formula 1 I was excited to pay Monaco a visit, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s exactly how I imagined it would be.

I mean, this view! Does it get any better?!

What have been your favourite things this summer (or winter is you are in the southern hemisphere)?

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Michelle

I wish I could wear Maxi dresses and jumpsuits, but the problem is height and body shape. I’m simply not thin enough and being short doesn’t help either 🙁 I wish I could wear Maxi dresses or jumpsuits like you, but I’m glad this summer was at least enjoyable except being unemployed, you know?

My favorite things were making new friends, swimming, and moving to a better place; A duplex community in the center of a main city in the DFW area. I’m glad and blessed to know who’s there for me and who isn’t.

I don’t believe in dressing for my body shape, so I say go for it! If you want to wear a maxi dress or a jumpsuit, do it!

I love swimming and I really regret not going this summer. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I went swimming.

  2. Looks like I need to head to The Body Shop for a clay mask. The seaweed sounds so funky but luxurious. :]

  3. Monaco is beautiful! I hope to go there some day, probably along with Portugal (since they are close and you have raved about how wonderful it is there too).

To be honest I am not a huge fan of jumpsuits, I think they don’t really suit my body shape. I’m quite small so I look like a child in anything remotely like overalls. xD

I used to think that brown lipstick was weird but then my mum got me to try this light brown lip stain and it looked great. Some colours seem weird out of the packaging but actually look great on! 🙂

Your reaction to the clay mask reminds me of my reaction to some hand cream I bought last week. I tried the tester in the store and ooooooomg it smelled so good and my hands felt amazing. Having been out of hand cream for a while I was so thrilled. Natural products, smelled good, was on sale too. xD

Haha, there are just so many beautiful place in Europe so close together.

I get so nervous about buying lipstick because I would hate to waste my money on a colour that didn’t suit. I was lucky with this one.

  4. Amy

That micellar cleanser seems like a great idea – I could do with something to remove my eye make-up. I tend to use ordinary make-up remover, but it hutts like hell if you get too much in your eyes. Maybe I better invest.

I love your jumpsuit – the pattern is beautiful.

It’s great that you got to go to such a lovely place – hope you had a nice time

    • Holly

I definitely think micellar water is more gentle on the eyes than the eye makeup removers I’ve tried. It also removes other makeup well too.

  5. Cat

I like the idea of listing favorites from the summer! That’s good to know that the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water removes eye make-up really well. I’ve been wanting a better eye make-up remover. I don’t wear lipstick often, but Magic Mauve looks like a nice color!

That jumpsuit looks good on you! The only one I own is one I made for cosplay, haha. It’s been so hot here, that I’ve been sticking to shorts and skirts.

I remember your post about Monaco 🙂 It looked like a beautiful city!

I think my favorites this summer would include the Napa trip I took. I definitely needed a relaxing trip like that!

    • Holly

I’m so envious of your weather. I wish I could have had more chance to wear summer clothes this summer.

I loved the photos from your Napa trip!

  6. Kya

They sound like really great items. If you want to post about beauty items you have every right to do it, especially if they are part of everyday life. 😀

    • Holly

Thanks! I don’t have much to say about beauty products, but occasionally I find the perfect products that I just have to tell everyone about.

  7. Great items Holly! Thanks for sharing! I definitely need to try out the Body Shop Clay Mask – I’ve been using Body shop products on and off because I don’t know if they are worth the money and if they actually work on my acne-prone skin. But that mask sounds awesome and less drying than the current neutrogena mask I use.

That lipstick is gorgeous! I don’t know what I feel about jumpsuits – I dont have many of them just because I go to the toilet a lot (green tea maniac over here) and always feel stressed trying to look for a bathroom xD

Ooo, Monaco sounds lovely, seen some lovely YouTube videos on it – like travel vlogs.

My summer fave has to be hands down Estee Lauder foundation – I’ve always had a hard time looking for summer foundation that covers my spots and doesn’t melt from my face after working/a hot day but EL is so so good at it 😉

    • Holly

I find that the Body Shop products are hit and miss. I always read the reviews on their website because they are spot on. I have bad acne and I’ve found that their seaweed range is perfect for my skin.

Haha, jumpsuits are a nightmare when you’ve got to go to the toilet!

I really want to try the Estee Lauder foundation. Maybe when I get my first pay check!

  8. I never tried a jumpsuit before :)) I should try one, to see how I feel, maybe next year I’ll wear them too 🙂

  9. I have always wanted to buy a jumpsuit but that to my stout body I feel a bit self conscious about jump suits and dresses and then I go back to my jeans!
I would like a few good skin products too. I haven’t been following a proper skin regime right now and it’s taking its toll now.
It’s neither summer nor winter here in India right now!
