Pictures of Matchstick Men

7th July 2012

I planned on blogging yesterday but the day didn’t go as planned. My mum had to go into hospital which scared and upset me. She told me not to worry but that’s what I do. I always worry. Luckily she came home around 7pm and there is nothing to worry about. Just doctors being over cautious. But that’s never a bad thing.

On Wednesday I went to see the new Spider-man film, The Amazing Spider-man. Out of the previous three films I had only seen the first one, and to be honest I wasn’t that impressed. I was hoping that this one would be better and it was. A lot better. Like when I went to see The Avengers a few months ago, I was on the edge of my seat and I really got into the story. I thought the story was great, possibly better than that of The Avengers, but don’t make me choose between the two films. I can’t pick! After the cinema we decided to have a late lunch so we went to Pizza Hut. I had a Hawaiian and Ty had a margarita.

I’ve always been a DC Comics fan. Even from a young age I remember liking Batman more than any other superhero. But recently I’ve started to become a fan of Marvel. I think I prefer the heroes from Marvel but I prefer the villains from DC Comics. πŸ˜€

Tomorrow I’m going to a book launch, but not just any book launch. My brother’s first book is being published! I’m not sure whether I’ve mentioned this before but my brother, who is 9 years older than me, is an illustrator. This book is a children’s book and the characters he has created are amazing. They’ve also made some merchandise to go with the book such as mugs and badges. I’mΒ definitely going to get myself a copy of the book and I’m taking my camera so I might get some pictures if I’m allowed to. I’m really excited about it. I’ve never been to anything like this before. I’m not even sure what to wear to a book launch.

Next Friday I will be on my way to Portugal for two weeks. As some of you may know, I go to Portugal every year and I have done for about the past 5 or 6 years. We have friends who own a villa and apartment out there in the town of Lagos. We basically stay in which ever place is available at the time and this year we will be staying the villa. It’s more like a town house rather than a typical style of villa. Although I’m not really bothered where we stay, I do like the villa as I get a room with a double bed and a small balcony with steps up to the roof terrace.

If I don’t blog before then, I will definitely blog when I am away. I’m not taking my laptop but I have the WordPress app on my phone. I might even post some pictures on my photoblog, but they will be off my phone so I apologise in advance for the rubbish quality. πŸ˜›

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Wow, congratulations to your brother! That’s really awesome that he’s getting a book published.

Have fun in Portugal. It would be awesome to have somewhere to stay. I’m sure both places are beautiful!

  2. Cat

I’m glad that your mom is ok!

I really liked the new Spiderman movie too. I think it’s a lot better than the previous 3, especially how they portray Peter Parker. He was funny and immature in this one, and before he was… super awkward. I’m also a big fan of Batman, but overall, I like Marvel better πŸ™‚

Wow, congrats to your brother! I’m interested to know what book it is πŸ™‚ One of my relatives also writes and illustrates children’s books!

I hope you have a great trip! Have fun in Portugal!

  3. Hey Holly!
I’ve not been around for sometime… haven’t blogged for many days… though I’ve posted two reviews today… do check them…

Congrats to your brother for getting his book published! I would love to read it even though it’s a children’s book… i love them!
I’ve not gone to watch Spiderman 4 and I wasn’t keen on watching it either as I was rather fond of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst… but I really loved The Avengers! Do you like Pizza Hut? I find it quite expensive here in India… I prefer Dominos or Smokin’Joe’s!

Wow a trip to a villa in Portugal? that’s so cool! Why do you go to Portugal so often? relatives?

So stop by SD… I’ll be blogging more soon!

  4. I hope you have a fantastic time in Portugal?

You weren’t impressed by the original Spider-Man? Bah how dare you! jk Sam Raimi (the director) is my favorite director of all time lol… and my favorite movie of all time is Spider-Man 2… so maybe you need to give that one a viewing. I saw the new one, and I thought it improved some aspects, but it also ruined others. The action scenes weren’t that great, and though it got the whole gwen stacy thing right, it ruined the harry osbourne thing. The casting was definitely better though… it just didn’t feel as much like a comic book (which is what I loved about the old ones)

  5. Ashley

I can’t really give you my opinion on The Amazing Spiderman because I actually fell asleep while watching it in the theatres haha. My bad. I’ve always liked the comics so I’ve had to watch the movies as well. I’ve always been a fan of spiderman, superman and batman. I’m currently watching the Smallville series ;o it’s good!

You must be so proud of your brother! That’s amazing.

  6. Shiri

Good thing it wasn’t too serious with your mom. And wow congrats to your brother on that book!

  7. Ben

Its cool that your brother is publishing a book, it must feel great! B)

I haven’t seen the new spiderman, but apparently it’s meant to be a bit of a chick-flick. However, lots of people I know, like my cousin, have been to see the new Batman film and it’s supposed to be brilliant! 8)

I also saw the Avengers a few months back, but I thought that the story could have been better – it didn’t seem very original.

A villa? Nice! Portugal always looked like a really nice place to go! I’ve only ever been abroad to France, but I’d love to go to somewhere like Cyprus, Majorca, Greece, America or Canada. They are basically my top 5 places I want to go. I’m DEFINITELY going to go to Rio one day – I’d love to see the Olympics there – imagine the atmosphere! The roof terrace sounds good for sunbathing and views, which would definitely be good for photographs. Phone cameras aren’t always bad – I’ve shot some great pics with my 5mp Blackberry, although I’ve only ever uploaded them to tumblr, twitter and facebook – not any of my websites, when they were open of course.

Anyway, have fun in Portugal when you go!
