Monthly Review | August 2016

Monthly Review | August 2016

It’s monthly review time again. It feels like as soon as I’ve published one it’s time to start writing the next. This year is just flying by.

What happened in August…

The most significant thing that happened in August actually happened on the very first day of the month – I won my legal case.

After 4 long years of fighting the defendant admitted liability and it was the most incredibly satisfying moment of my life.

I headed home to Shropshire that weekend to celebrate with my parents. Needless to say a lot of wine was involved!

I started really pushing myself with my work out routine. I’ve never had any interest in exercise or fitness but I’m now at a stage in my life where if I don’t work out my hips then I’m going to be in a terrible, terrible state. My muscles around my hip are so weak that they need to be built up and made as strong as possible.

Anyway, I’d been doing some exercises that I found online which were working to some extent, but I knew I needed to be doing more to get those muscles stronger. So I bought some ankle weights and a thigh toner which have seriously upped my work outs.

And do you know what? I’m actually enjoying it!

August ended with a trip to Norway which you can read all about here if you haven’t already done so. Basically it was an absolutely incredible experience and I really did have to pinch myself because I felt so so lucky to have been given the opportunity to go.

In September…

Every year in September since I was 4 I’ve started something new, whether that be a new school, college or university year, or a new job, which was the case last year.

But this September is different because life is just carrying on as normal. It’s a bit strange really.

I should have been going to see The Who this month but now I’m not, and you can read about what happened with that in this post.

So, I’d been seriously looking forward to September until I had to erase that from my calendar.

I’ve got my driving test this month. I’m really not looking forward to it (ha, who does?) but I’m feeling determined. I need to be driving by the end of the year as my usual train route to work is going to be disrupted for 6 weeks at the beginning of 2017, and I need to get both Tyrone and myself across the river (there’s a tunnel, I’ve not got an amphibious car) every day.

So yeah, if I pass my test then I’ll be buying a car this month which is a very exciting yet daunting prospect. And then I will have to stop spending because before we know it Christmas will be hear and I’ll be poor again.

How was August for you? What are your plans for September?

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

Looks like August was a good month! That’s great that you won your legal case and got to go to Norway in the same month 🙂 I’m glad you’re enjoying the work outs too. I normally hate exercising, but I found that I like running. Sometimes you just have to find the right exercise for you!

After I started working full time, I definitely felt like things kind of became the same month after month. Sometimes I feel the need to change things up, but it’s also nice to have that sense of stability. I hope you do well on the driving test later!

August was fun for me since I spent half of it in Japan 🙂 I’ll be taking a short trip in September too!

Oh man, I wish I could run. It’s too high impact for my hip. 🙁

Yes, I definitely like the sense of stability. But I’m looking at switching up my routine and trying new hobbies to make life a little more varied.

  2. I hope you’ll pass your test and you can get the car. Life is so much easier with a car.

Glad to hear you won your legal case! That must have been such a relief for you after all the hassle.

I’m pushing myself to work out more too. I did like three days in a row the other week, then haven’t bothered since, unfortunately. I think as soon as Andy starts his new job I’ll be able to get into a routine and do it more often. I really need to!

Good luck with your driving test! I passed the second time I did it, but I do know a couple of people who passed first time. Just breathe, and don’t get too nervous. Also, make sure you look at road markings. I failed for going straight round a roundabout which wasn’t like a normal roundabout. I went straight over the give way lines. Oops!

I didn’t really do much in August, but I’ve still felt really busy. This week has felt the busiest. I’ve barely had any free time to catch-up on blogs!

In September I want to get organised again. I feel like the bank holiday has screwed up my routine a bit. The house is a bit of a mess, I’m behind on washing, and behind on blogging. Hopefully it’ll sort itself out!

Seems like August was a very good month for you. Congratulation on winning the case. I hope September will be a good month for you too.

I just started my driving lessons and it’s so weird, because I just couldn’t orientate myself in the car. Also I am constantly thinking that I am going out of the road or on the other part of the road. God. I hope this feeling goes away and I will be more sure about myself. I think my driving exam will be in a few months. Usually they’re really busy and they schedule you months away. It’s frustrating. I hope I will get my driving licence too and maybe I will buy a second hand car too.

Good luck with your exam <3

  5. An amphibious car!! I laughed at that. I wish I had one. Holy hell. xD

I’m glad you are liking the weights and the muscle training. Recently I found out that working out my muscles would be good for my high cholesterol too, compared to cardio… so plus for both of us 🙂 I’m enjoying it as well.

It totally sucks about The Who, but I think the driving should be getting a little more exciting as you go. It’s natural to be a little unsettled while you’re still preparing for your test. But I’m sure you’ll stay motivated. Your train dilemma reminds me of the new dilemma I have this week… increased transport fares! *insert swear words here %!^*#@!!!*

I’m sure September will still be a good month for you 😀
