Little Victories | June 2018

1st July 2018

Well, wasn’t June a lovely month! This sunshine honestly puts me in the best of moods!

I felt like summer last year was a complete right off. I spent the hottest days of the year in Ikea or painting my living room, but this year I’ve made the most of every sunny day we’ve had.

We’re experiencing a heatwave in the UK at the moment, and as we aren’t use to it being so warm it’s been a bit chaotic. The hill that I live on is covered in woodland areas and the top of it has been on fire 3 times this week alone, all because of the heat. Crazy!

Aside from the weather, June was a great month for me…

  • I started working with some amazing clients and I’m feeling really excited about the future of my little business.
  • We went to Manchester to see The Rolling Stones live and they were absolutely incredible! It was honestly the best concert I have ever been too. I can’t believe how much energy they have at their age! Also, the support act was Richard Ashcroft from The Verve so I was lucky enough to see one of my all time favourite songs, Bitter Sweet Symphony, performed live.
  • We also went to see Billy Joel in Manchester. It was a fantastic show and it still blows my mind how many amazing songs he has wrote.
  • We painted our garage doors. When we moved in they were red, and red is my least favourite colour! So we painted them white and now we match with the rest of the houses down our street.
  • I finished counselling after 6 months. It’s bittersweet. I’m sad that I won’t be able to see my therapist anymore as she was so lovely and she helped me so much, but I’m in a much better place than I was when I started and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity.
  • I started doing yoga again after a very long break. I’d forgotten how good it feels.
  • We celebrated one year of home-ownership! I can’t believe it’s been a year already.

How was June for you? Did you have any victories, big or small?

Little Victories is a monthly series, celebrating the things that make life great, no matter how small.

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. 1 year, how times flies. Red garage doors don’t sound too appealing. I imagine they look so much better now, on white.

    • Holly

Yeah, I think the previous owners of this house were Liverpool supporters hence why they painted them red, and as an Everton supporter I just hated it haha!

  2. Aside from the horrible heat, I love the Summer as well. There’s something about the sunshine that is so refreshing. During the month of April and May, we had A LOT of rain in my area and I don’t think the sun came out more than 2-3 times out the entire 2 months.

June sounded so nice. I’m seeing Britney Spears later this month and I’m super excited. People often drag her down for her lip-syncing and lack of dancing on stage anymore, but I enjoy her music. I’ve seen her a few times already. LOL.

I think we had one of the driest Mays on record here! I was actually grateful to see some rain this week. My garden it dead!

Something I’ve learned over the years is that a concert can be more than just the music. As long as you enjoy yourself that’s the main thing.

  3. It’s winter here in Australia and I’m loving it. I cannot stand Australian summers!!

Sounds like you had a really productive and eventful June πŸ™‚
I didn’t do much, I was ill and pretty much just worked and then went home to sleep haha.

  4. I can’t believe how long the heatwave has lasted tbh, people have said that it’s going to go on all summer (highly doubt it but hoping it will last out to my graduation day πŸ˜‚) I’m glad you’re making the most out of the sun – haha, I remember seeing your Instagram stories about fires and then seeing it on the news too. Crazy!! THE UK IS NOT READY πŸ˜‚

I’m so so so SO proud of you for keeping up with your little business. I have so much faith in where you’re going with your freelance work, I’m excited about the future!! Keep it up Holly – you’re amazing ✨

    • Holly

I hope it sticks around for your graduation! We got really lucky with the weather for my graduation. It was sunny but not too hot, which is good because those gowns are thick!

Thank you so much for your support Pauline!

  5. Amy

So happy to hear you had a great June! I’m glad your business is going well. You really deserve it after all the hard work you’ve been putting in. I’ve seen your content on your professional site and it’s amazing. It’s all up from here!

This weather has been ridiculous. Because our house only has one door, it’s been so difficult to get any air in and most nights it’s been 28 degrees in here. Too much! It’s meant to be cooling down now though, thankfully, so hopefully the rest of July will be much better!

I had a really busy June! We! went away for two weekends and had plans on all the others. So glad to have a weekend in the house now!

Hope July goes just as well for you!

    • Holly

      Aww thank you Amy!

Yeah, the hot nights aren’t pleasant. When the hill has been on fire we’ve had to shut all of the windows and it’s been unbearable!
