I will start by thanking you for all your previous comments regarding my sleeping pain and my laptop battery. I’m sleeping better now. I’ve adapted to sleeping on my back with a hot water bottle against my hip and it seems to be working quite nicely. I’m less worried about my laptop now knowing that it will be fine if I leave it plugged in and that I can probably get a reasonably priced replacement battery from eBay or somewhere similar.
I’ve been very stressed out with college. I have good days and bad days, but don’t we all?
My essay writing has been pretty poor in geography. It’s a big issue considering there will be an essay question in the exam and so far I’m getting less than half marks on the practice questions. I had a meeting with my tutor today and I admitted that I was struggling. He told me that I could go to the study skills centre in college to get some advice on writing and structuring essays. I’m never been the type of person to admit defeat and ask for help but I’ve learned that over time that my attitude is pretty stupid. We all need help at some point, even if we don’t want to admit it. I agreed to book an appointment so I’m going to my crash course in writing essays on Friday morning. Hopefully I will pick up some useful skills but if not, at lease I will kill some free time.
I received my final, un-moderated mark for my ICT (information and communication technology, for those who wanted to know what it stood for ) coursework this morning. Well, I got an A! I’m pretty proud of myself. I put so much time and effort into it. I really wanted to get a good grade in the coursework as it is worth 40% of my final grade for this year. It will mean that I stand a better chance of coming out with a higher grade (an A or a B ) at the end of the year.
My mum bought me a new printer today. My old one is pretty old and it stopped working a couple of weeks ago. It diagnosed the problem and told me I needed to replace the coloured ink. I ordered some ink of eBay and when they arrived I put them in the printer. However, nothing I sent to print was actually printed out. I was pretty frustrated considering my mum had spend £10 on the new inks (I know that’s not bad but still). Today she bought me a new one with a built in scanner and copier. It’s a very fancy looking printer, compared to my old one. I’ve placed it under my desk and it makes a great foot rest.
By the way, the name of this blog is also the name of a song by The Police; “When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around”. It’s a long name for a song but I recommend it. Tyrone helped to complete my collection of songs by The Police (not record wise, I’m still missing Ghost in the Machine) so I’ve been listening to a lot more of their album songs. Some of these songs are so underrated!

I’m glad to hear that your hips are doing better and the heating pad sounded like a great idea.
Geography sounds like a really boring topic to me, and to write an exam on top of that..must be pretty difficult. I hoped that center was useful after all.
Lol, i’m not sure about you using that printer as your foot rest though, hahaha what if you accidentally break it? o.o
And congratulations in getting that A!!!! <3 Hard work definitely pays off.
Congratulations for your result! I studied like a dog last year and gave my exams, hoping for a break. My result is coming on 20th May and I am worrying myself to death.
And the new printer! You lucky thing. Mine is getting old too, and it only takes out print if you feed one sheet of paper to it, one by one. It’s a mess if I have to print a large file.
I am good with essays, and writing in general. But I have an attitude like yours too. I hate asking for help. Stupid pride. The past few months, I coached some friends through some tough topics. Now all of them have fancy tuitions with impressive teachers and I am stuck. I would waste three hours on the topic but not pick up the phone to call them. The worst part is that I know if I call them up, they’ll snicker. The power would have shifted and they’re the sort of people who would have enjoyed that. Not really friends, you can say.
I have the same attitude you have to admit defeat, and it is slowly lowering my grade in Norwegian and physics. I know what I am doing wrong but I do not want to practice or ask the teachers a lot of questions. But it is true that “We all need help at some point, even if we do not want to admit it.” I am just not at the admitting part yet, haha -.-’ How did the essay writing course go? I would love for some pointers if you learned some neat tricks!
Congratulations on the A! + the Police = nice music!
So did you see the Avengers yet? I think you tweeted about it.
(Oh, my web is down and I do not know if it is coming up anytime soon. I need to mail my host. So if you reply then maybe you could do it here? :-D)
Or I could just post my blog. Sorry for always dobble posting.
