When the world is running down…
27th April 2012
I will start by thanking you for all your previous comments regarding my sleeping pain and my laptop battery. I’m sleeping better now. I’ve adapted to sleeping on my back with a hot water bottle against my hip and it seems to be working quite nicely. I’m less worried about my laptop now knowing that it will be fine if I leave it plugged in and that I can probably get a reasonably priced replacement battery from eBay or somewhere similar.
I’ve been very stressed out with college. I have good days and bad days, but don’t we all?
My essay writing has been pretty poor in geography. It’s a big issue considering there will be an essay question in the exam and so far I’m getting less than half marks on the practice questions. I had a meeting with my tutor today and I admitted that I was struggling. He told me that I could go to the study skills centre in college to get some advice on writing and structuring essays. I’ve never been the type of person to admit defeat and ask for help but I’ve learned that over time that my attitude is pretty stupid. We all need help at some point, even if we don’t want to admit it. I agreed to book an appointment so I’m going to my crash course in writing essays on Friday morning. Hopefully I will pick up some useful skills but if not, at least I will kill some free time.
I received my final, un-moderated mark for my ICT (information and communication technology, for those who wanted to know what it stood for ) coursework this morning. Well, I got an A! I’m pretty proud of myself. I put so much time and effort into it. I really wanted to get a good grade in the coursework as it is worth 40% of my final grade for this year. It will mean that I stand a better chance of coming out with a higher grade (an A or a B ) at the end of the year.
My mum bought me a new printer today. My old one is pretty old and it stopped working a couple of weeks ago. It diagnosed the problem and told me I needed to replace the coloured ink. I ordered some ink of eBay and when they arrived I put them in the printer. However, nothing I sent to print was actually printed out. I was pretty frustrated considering my mum had spend £10 on the new inks (I know that’s not bad but still). Today she bought me a new one with a built in scanner and copier. It’s a very fancy looking printer, compared to my old one. I’ve placed it under my desk and it makes a great foot rest.
By the way, the name of this blog is also the name of a song by The Police; “When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around”. It’s a long name for a song but I recommend it. Tyrone helped to complete my collection of songs by The Police (not record wise, I’m still missing Ghost in the Machine) so I’ve been listening to a lot more of their album songs. Some of these songs are so underrated!
