Holly at the Liverpool Loves festival

This week has been a lot quieter than last week.

I received three job interview invites this week; one of which was on Thursday for an analyst job, and I think it went really well. The other two are next week. One is for a temporary job in retail and the other is for (*drum roll please*) a web developer job!

I started coding 7 years ago because I was bored. If you had told me then, at the age of 14, that I would be attending a job interview to develop websites full time as a job I wouldn’t have believed it. I know it’s just an interview but the fact that my self-taught skills help to get me recognised is the most incredible feeling ever.

I’m keeping everything crossed. Hopefully I’ll be back in employment soon!

The weather finally picked up toward the end of the week. Today Tyrone and I went into town and we stumbled across the Liverpool Loves festival. It’s a free festival at Pier Head and has been on since Thursday. There was lots of stalls selling food and gifts (much better than the Christmas market!), and some live music too. We enjoyed walking having a look around and even got some free samples of Fosters on the way back to town.

Have a great weekend!

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Wow! Web Developer’s job! Sooo cool!
Your web designing skills are really awesome and I totally admire them, especially because you are not a professional student of computers!
I really hope you get a perfect job
    ! All the best, Holly.

Aww thank you! It really means a lot to know people like my designs. I’m definitely better at coding than designing though!

  2. Cat

That’s great that you got 3 interviews! Having skills to make websites is so handy now. It’s a good thing you got into it years ago πŸ™‚ I hope you get the jobs! Good luck!

Ooh, a free festival with stalls and live music sounds fun. I love seeing things like that, especially when the weather is nice. Sounds like you had a good week!

  3. I’m glad to hear that your interview went well! Hopefully you’ll get a good offer! It’s good to be self-taught because you always learn more compared to sitting in a class. It also shows that you have the skills to perform problem-solving tasks :). Have a good weekend!

Thank you! I ended up getting the web developer job, and I really do believe the fact I am self-taught made me stand out.

  4. Woot! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! I do hope the web developer job will work out for you! Being recognised for your self-taught skills or hobby is the best feeling ever! ^^

  5. Ooh congratulations and good luck for all the jobs Holly! i’m sure you’ll wow them with your coding skills. You must be very proud to see how far you’ve come, especially with something that changes as often as coding.
I can’t believe I missed Liverpool Loves! Hope you had a great time! I’ve just seen some of the pictures my friends posted on Facebook, it looked like it was really good. The Christmas markets got worse each year, I hope this year that changes.

    Good luck!

Thank you! I never thought in a million years that learning to code would be so beneficial in life.

Apparently Liverpool Loves was so successful that they’ll be bringing it back next year!

  6. Wow, good luck! πŸ™‚ I’ve just started looking for part time work, so I can finally appreciate how hard the job hunt is! Gah. It is the WORST. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you lovie!

      Thank you!

Good luck with the job hunt. There seems to be more part-time work than full-time work out there at the moment.

Woot! That’s great to hear~ Job hunting is SO hard, but eventually you land somewhere.

  8. Congrats on your job interviews, I hope you’ll get an offer as an web designer. I missed that festival, what a shame, it sounds great.

  9. Like I said on twitter, congrats! Landing the interview I find is always the real accomplishment, it takes a lot for hiring staff to notice a resume, and make the call. If I told my 13 year old self I would be getting a degree in computer science I think she would burst out laughing. LOL and my grade 10 self would hit me over the head if she found out I actually liked human geography and was attempting to change my minor into a BA. It is funny how we never really plan some things, and our old selves would have a huge laugh. The festival sounds cool. How did the Everton game go? (It was Everton right?) Some years we are lucky enough in Canada to get some Pre-Season games with the European champions league teams playing our (really crappy) MLS teams. I am waiting till they have one with AC Milan & Real Madrid, since I love AC and Christopher loves Real, we would get the best of both worlds.

      Thank you!

Haha, sometimes our dreams change. When I started learning code at 14 I had no desire to do it full-time, and instead wanted to be a marine biologist. Oh how times have changed!

I totally forgot to mention the match haha! Yes, it was Everton. It was a really good day but unforunately we lost. I still had fun with my dad and brother though.
