The Weekend Blog (Vol.62)

4th July 2015

Congratulations card

For those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter, I have a proud announcement to make.

I got my degree classification on Monday and I will be graduating with a…

1st!!

It was such an incredible feeling to wake up to such great news. I rolled over to hug Tyrone, while crying, to tell him the good news.

I text my parents, who were in Menorca at the time, to tell them. My mum cried too.

Considering that I didn’t even get the A Level results I needed to get into university in the first place, and that I’ve had one of the toughest years of my life having to battle with a deteriorating hip condition, I could not be more proud of my achievement.

Thanks to all of you who put up with my moaning and wished me well through everything. This is going to sound like a cliche but your support genuinely helped me get through university.

Despite the great news on Monday I went back to feeling low about still being unemployed on Tuesday, but a Skype session with my mum sorted me out. I decided to go home for a few days to sort my head out.

It’s definitely worked. I’ve managed to apply for more jobs and I have come up with a schedule/action plan for the next few weeks to keep me busy.

Because the weather has been so great this week, my mum and dad put on a barbecue to celebrate my 1st. The champagne was flowing well and the food was excellent.

I’m going back to Liverpool tomorrow and I’m ready to start a new week with a new attitude.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Congratulations on your outstanding achievements, Holly! You deserve that classification for all the hard work you’ve put into your studies! (I had to look up British degree classification LOL). And I think it’s great that your achievement shows that the grades you get before university shouldn’t reflect what you may get in the future. πŸ˜€ Congrats again!

    • Holly

      Thank you!

I know, when ever I read a non-British blog and they’re talking about education I am so confused!

  2. Congratulations on graduating with a 1st! You’ve been working hard and it’s awesome to be rewarded with this level of recognition! Despite the challenges you had to face throughout school, you’ve pulled through ;). Good luck with the job application process, don’t give up~

  3. Congratulations!! Hard work does pay off. πŸ™‚

  4. Jamie

Congratulations! You deserve all these achievements, you have worked hard all throughout university. So you deserve it!

  5. Congratulations! That is absolutely amazing. Hard works pays off! πŸ™‚

  6. Congratulations Holly! I’m so glad all your hard work paid off, you should be so proud! Enjoy graduation and all the other celebrations that will be happening in the run up. Don’t worry about work, something will come up – but until then your super-orgainisedness will help you! Keeping yourself busy is the way to go. Well done you!!!

    • Holly

Thank you! I stop worrying when I’m busy so my goal for the next few weeks is to be so busy I don’t even think about running out of money.

  7. Congratulations on your first!! Ah, I’m so excited for you πŸ™‚

I didn’t get the A Levels results I needed to get into university, either! But look at us now – ahhhh, congratulations again! Good luck with the job hunt – I’m sure you’ll find something soon. I didn’t find anything when I came out of university straight until mid July.

    • Holly

      Thank you!!

I think not getting the A Level results I needed gave me a huge motivation boost in my first year of uni. I was determined to prove to myself I wasn’t stupid. Achieving a 1st after getting such bad grades at college kind of shows just how rubbish A Levels are.

  8. Congratulations! Good luck with the job hunt.

  9. Cat

Congrats on graduating with a 1st! I’m glad all the hard work paid off πŸ™‚ Great job!

Job hunting is tough and sometimes takes a while. Hang in there though! I’m sure you’ll find something soon πŸ™‚ Good luck!

    • Holly

Thank you! If I can put just as much effort into job hunting as I did with my degree then hopefully I’ll get a job soon.

  10. Michelle

Congrats! I knew you could do it! ^^ Yeah, sometimes we have low periods, like I had one recently, but we have to pull ourselves out of it and realize that it isn’t the end, but something passing.

    • Holly

Thank you! These low periods are horrible, but I’m sure they are making me a stronger person.

  11. Congrats Holly! I am not sure if you read my reply to your comment on my website but just in case I will repost the little snippet I had to mention to you about a job opportunity which may be a great place to start.

“I applied to be a virtual assistant, and remembered your job hunt. It’s self employment, and would be perfect because they look for people with WordPress, Web Design, and writing skills. I applied for a Canadian one but I am sure there is one where you are!”

I am sure your job hunting will pay off soon! Just keep being positive about it and being the best person you can be. When you are your best is when things that are deserved seem to come around, at least in my experience.

    • Holly

After reading your comment I went and applied for a job as a virtual assistant. Thank you so much for the suggestion!! If I can’t get with an agency then I’d be prepared to do it completely on my own. It’s the type of job I would love to do.

  12. Susanne

I have no idea about the classification thing but it sounds great, so congratulations!!!
And, school grades doesn’t say anything at all about your ability to perform university studies.
Sounds like you had a good and well deserved weekend with your parents.

    • Holly

Thank you! A 1st is the highest degree classification you can obtain. Below that is a 2:1 then a 2:2 then a 3rd.

  13. Aw congratulations, Holly! I know you put in a lot of work and you definitely deserved it! Enjoy your accomplishments and best of luck with the job hunt!

  14. Congrats on your achievement! It’s great that your parents are so supportive πŸ™‚

  15. !!! Exclamation points, Holly!!!! I am so happy for you, you should definitely be crying right now. πŸ™‚ You deserve this wonderful achievement for working so hard. I’m sure your parents and Tyrone are super proud of you. I hope you celebrate! πŸ™‚

Never mind the struggles looking for work, I am sure that this will be something any future employer would be wowed by πŸ˜€

  16. […] Last weekend I said I had come up with a schedule/action plan to help me get motivated. As a result I have managed to apply for 16 jobs, which is pretty productive for me. […]
