The Weekend Blog | I bought clothes!

It’s amazing how much the weather has changed over the last few weeks. On the day the engineer came to install our internet, just a few days after we moved into the house, it snowed. Now it’s beginning to get warmer (just a little) and it feels like spring.

I feel like this week we finally settled into a routine in our new house as we are both back at work now. This weekend we bought bedside tables, and our sofa is due to arrive next week, so once that arrives we can finally start to think about the non-necessities such as art for the walls, plants and general décor. You know, the exciting stuff.

Yesterday I took myself off shopping in town and I genuinely enjoyed myself. Yes, me, enjoying shopping.

Basically, I haven’t really treated myself since I started my job back in September. In fact I hadn’t even spent the money people had gifted me for Christmas and my birthday! Of course, I’ve done a lot of spending in recent months, but personally I don’t get a kick out of purchasing a washing machine or a fridge.

I’d only bought one or two new items for my wardrobe since September, and it got to the point where I joked about owning an accidental capsule wardrobe. But all joking aside, I was sick and tired of wearing the same clothes week in week out. Fortunately fashion is picking up again as we leave winter behind so I found loads of lovely new pieces of my wardrobe. The cactus t-shirt is of course my favourite. I also stocked up on a few of my favourite skincare products, and a few bath treats for Lush.

That should keep me going for another 6 months!

Next weekend is Easter and as it will be my first Easter spent in the UK for a few years (I’ve spent it in Portugal, France and New York in recent years) I’m going back to Shropshire. I’m looking forward to having a bit of a break and seeing my friends and family.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Yay to shopping!!
It’s really a nice feeling to buy and own new clothes.. recently I just started to shop for clothes, at least 1 for each month. Or else I would be wearing the same cycle of clothes every week..

It must be quite hard for u since u need more money for furniture and many other things for the house.
But hope u will have more fun when the decoration starts!

I was wearing the same clothes day in day out over the winter, and it would get to the point where all my decent clothes would be in the wash and I’d have absolutely nothing to wear for work. :(

It’s a nice activity to shop clothes, if you find stuff that you like. Personally I have only very rarely found items that I like in the last few years, because the fashion has been unbelievably dreadful. Everything looks like a dish cloth or something like that… but actually, I found a nice pair of jeans and a cardigan on Friday, perfect for my upcoming trip to Italy. So there is hope I guess.

Fashion has been terrible in recent years but maybe it’s picking up if we’ve both managed to find things to buy!

  3. It’s always nice to treat ourselves after all the hard work we do! :) I love stocking up on products too because I actually hate shopping for skincare stuff, they always stress me out xD so I tend to just buy the usual but stock up before hand so I don’t have to go through that dreaded que in boots! The weather has improved immensely!

I think I’m still in the student mindset. I don’t feel like I can treat myself because I can’t afford, but I can now I’m working full-time.

Don’t even get my started on the size of the queue I had to deal with in Boots this weekend! I only wanted to buy a primer!

  4. Shopping for spring/summer clothes is far better than shopping for winter clothes. I love buying pretty tops and dresses.

That cactus tee is so cute! where did you buy it from? Which shops do you normally shop in?

    • Holly

Yes! I hate shopping for winter. I’d much rather be buying dresses, shorts and pretty vest tops.

The cactus t-shirt is from New Look. My go-to shops are H&M, New Look and Pull & Bear. :)

  5. The cactus t-shirt is fun, I love it. :) x

  6. Cat

Yay for treating yourself! Always good to do once in a while! I have felt the same way lately about my wardrobe, and I’m on the hunt for some new clothing. The cactus one is cute :) Is the one behind it the zebra one you showed on Instagram? I really like the pattern of that one!

That sounds nice to see your friends and family for Easter :) Have a good week!

  7. I love the cactus shirt too! I feel like I’m likening it to my pineapple print shirt, which is also black. Both objects are spiky haha.

You have done an awesome job not having bought anything since September. I did go to Melbourne and buy shorts and a pair of shoes, but I needed them. I haven’t bought much since last July or so, especially since I stopped buying jewellery as well. I am starting to get sick of my own clothes but I’m also trying to get rid of a lot of old ones, so I am doing that first so that I know where my real favourites are.
