The Weekend Blog

Costa Coffee

I had a week off from university this week. Why? Because the rest of my course have been in Greece.

As much as I would have loved to have visited Crete and Santorini, I was realistic about the whole situation and chose not to go on medical grounds. My hip would have undoubtedly started to cause problems for me, and I’m not the only who this affects. It impacts on my lectures and my friends, and it’s just not fair.

I was planning on using this week to work on the literature review for my dissertation/research project, as well as filling out the ethical forms for my data collection. Unfortunately, I still have the cold that started at the end of last week and so my work pace was slow.

Being ill and stuck in rainy cold Liverpool while my friends were off in sunny Greece was not good for morale. I got pretty low this week, but I’m bouncing back and trying to look at life in a more positive way.

Yes, writing my literature review is tough but why worry over it? My lowest module mark gets dropped this year, and if it happens to be my research project then so be it. As long as I pass it I will still graduate with honours. There is no point me wasting too much time on it and not leaving enough time for other modules as that will affect my whole overall grade. It’s all about finding a balance.

In other news, this weekend I sold another pair of my comic book shoes via Etsy.com. I sold the very first pair I made, and when I looked at the address I found that the person who had ordered them lived literally a couple of roads away from flat. So I messaged her saying it would take me longer to walk to the post office than to meet her outside her flat to deliver them by hand. Plus, she could have them the very same day. It’s a small world.

Hopefully next week I will back to full health and my productivity levels will be back to normal again.

Happy Weekend!

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Aww I know how you feel, a few months ago my whole uni course went to Barcelona for a week but I couldn’t go for a mixture of reasons – I get very anxious when I fly, so thought it wouldn’t be fair to put that pressure on friends and lecturers either, plus it was my boyfriends 21st halfway through the week – so it was bittersweet, but I still felt a little low seeing all their photos.

It was probably for the best though!
And honest don’t stress too much about your disso.. like you said as long as you pass you get honours! That’s what I did haha! :)

It’s shame you didn’t get to go to Barcelona, but your reasons are completely understandable. It is hard when you have to look at all the photos of them having fun. But my friends said they missed me and that really cheered me up. :)

      • Thanks, yeah I agree it was for the best.
Your reasons make it completely understandable too.

Aww it’s always nice to know someone’s missed you :)

  2. Being ill sucks, sometimes it’s better to just take the enforced relaxation time rather than bully yourself into doing things :)

  3. Sorry that you’ve been ill this week! Always horrible when you plan to do lots of work and be super productive and you can’t. Your attitude towards work and worry is great though; really positive. I hope you feel better soon!

  4. I love your small world story – I hope she appreciated the personalised delivery! ^_^

About your literature review, I hope you do well. There is a common saying here, “A P gets you a degree” (that is, a P for Pass). If you don’t stress too much about it and put enough effort into the other modules, then a low mark won’t be detrimental at all!

Last week I felt compelled to do a little weekend blog like you do – I find my weekends are mostly uneventful but I love how you reflect on what’s been happening. It’s such a nice summary to read between your other posts! :)
