New Brighton in photographs

View of Liverpool from New Brighton

Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I can’t believe that I actually live in the city that I dreamed of moving to all through my teenage years. Liverpool is a beautiful city, and this photograph, taken from New Brighton, reminds me of just how much I have in this wonderful city.

But enough of the sentimental stuff. Today I’m going to be sharing photographs from our recent trip to New Brighton.

Lighthouse

New Brighton is a small seaside resort located on the Wirral Peninsula. We caught the Merseyrail from Moorfields station and took the Wirral Line to New Brighton.

To be honest, there isn’t a lot to do at New Brighton, compared to places nearby like Southport. But I was happy to find that the sea was closer to the land, and so I got my chance to have a paddle in the sea. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sand was so soft, just like you’d expect abroad, and the sea was warmer than it was in Italy when I went in May.

In the sea

I’m lucky to have a man who is willing to take photographs of me messing about in the sea. Thanks Ty!

And then the sun came out from behind a cloud.

Beach

I made up a picnic for us which we ate by the small marina at New Brighton. Picnics make days out really cheap. It’s a great student tip. πŸ˜‰

Pirate ship

This ship is an art installation made from wood.

On Friday [Edit: Wednesday] I will be sharing my photographs from when the Giants came to Liverpool, so stay tuned. πŸ™‚

Enjoyed this post? Why not share it...

  1. Liverpool does look like a beautiful city! Even more with it being next to the open water. I’m glad to hear that you finally had the chance to be in the water :). It’s so cute how he would take all of these pictures of you :D. Picnics are great to have. It’s so much cheaper and you can have your food the way you want.

I like how Spider-Man is on the boat! I could almost imagine him being typical Spidey up there (if it was for reals).

  2. Very cute! I love the dress you wore. πŸ˜€ The ship installation with Spider-Man is pretty awesome haha. Looks like New Brighton is a lot different from Brighton! Brighton’s sand…is….rock while it looks like this sand is soft. That is significantly more pleasant to dip your toes in! Such a huge difference in lighting when the sun came out too. Looks like you two had an all around great day!

Thanks you! The dress I probably the best purchase (clothes wise) I’ve made all summer. It was Β£7.99 from H&M!

I’ve always wanted to go Brighton but it’s so far away from where I live. I just want to go because it’s where they filmed one of my favourite movies – Quadrophenia.

It’s so much easier to take beautiful photos when the sun is out. I had to try and recover the others in Photoshop using the RAW files.

  3. Ella

New Brighton and Liverpool look beautiful! I live in the middle of a huge continent and I can only dream about seeing the ocean again. Not just that, my city is the only major city within hundreds of kilometres radius to the next largest major city. Once I graduate and receive my new passport, I plan to travel more!

You’re lucky a lucky gal to have a boyfriend who is patient and willing to take pictures of you playing in the water. πŸ˜‰

Coming from a place where there isn’t much to do, I’m always looking for small, near by places to take pictures of and take in all the beautiful sights. I look forward to more pictures of your adventures. πŸ™‚

I use to live in a landlocked county so it’s lovely to be so close to the sea.

I certainly hope I can squeeze in a few more adventures before I have to go back to university. πŸ™‚

  4. Jamie

It’s always great to get to be in the water. You and I both have wonderful boyfriends who will take pictures of us. *high five*.

Liverpool looks beautiful, and I do love the idea of the ship. Very interesting and unique! Though Spiderman does NOT belong on a ship. He isn’t a pirate haha.

  5. I love your photos! Looks like a really lovely place to visit. I also love the black dress.

  6. Wasn’t aware that New Brighton was a place, but glad to hear you had a fantastic time. πŸ™‚ Your photographs are beautiful and I guess I’ll have to visit both Brighton, Liverpool AND New Brighton the next time I come round.

    • Holly

I didn’t know it was a place until I moved to Liverpool! It’s nice to have all these little towns to explore now I live in the Liverpool area.

  7. Cat

Liverpool looks like a beautiful city! That’s awesome how close to the water you are πŸ™‚

Ooh, the beach at New Brighton sounds nice. Soft sand and warm waters? Yes please! I love beaches like that πŸ™‚ That art installation looks cool too. I think it’s funny that there’s a random Spider-Man up there, haha.

  8. New Brighton looks like a great place to visit. Potential date place has been added to my list!

Love your photos and your dress – where did you get it from?

  9. Amy

All the photographs are lovely. Glad to see you had a nice time.

Liverpool does look lovely on that picture. I always forget how nice my hometown is too. I complain about it a lot, but there are actually a lot of beautiful/great things there that I overlook in favour of the bad stuff.

That Spiderman is great! Why is he there?
    xx

I think Liverpool is still recovering from the bad reputation it use to have. I find myself constantly defending the city when people tell me it’s a dump. I love it. πŸ™‚

      Haha, I have no idea!

  10. Andrew

I have just returned home (Edinburgh) from my first visit to Liverpool. What an absolutely gorgeous city! I am very well travelled and I have to say I would go as far as to rank Liverpool as one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to. So many smart buildings (old and new), a vibrant atmosphere, so many smart boutiques, eateries and cafΓ©s and that skyline is something I could just sit and watch all day.

Is New Brighton charming or is a bit run down? Wallasey and New Brighton certainly look nice from the Mersey Ferry…

    • Holly

It certainly is a beautiful city. I feel very lucky to live here. I like the mixture of old and new architecture. I think it gives the city a lot of character. πŸ™‚

I liked the promenade and beach at New Brighton, but most of the buildings typical of an English seaside resort are quite and run down. However, there is a huge development along the coast where there are new shops, a cinema and bowling alley. I think the whole town could be made to be a lot more attractive to tourists.
